Creativity can be defined as a unique and varied external response to an internal idea, imagination or the ability to articulate something seen, felt, or heard, using different forms of media, invention, or creative expression. It is problem solving, innovation and experimenting until you come up with a solution to fix any problem anywhere.
There is a creative genius in all of us that is as individual and personal as we are, with a unique perspective to communicate to the world.
The vulnerably of creativity exposes us to criticism, ridicule, and rejection, which can leave us with fear to even get started. As a singer and artist, creativity came naturally to me. However, there have been many times when, doubt, fear of judgment, self-consciousness and creative blocks have stopped me. Thankfully, we can find our creative genius, whenever we are ready to surrender the fear and let our creativity flow.

Creativity & Wellbeing
There are numerous wellbeing benefits that come from creativity. As we let our creativity flow the benefits impact every part of our lives. Research has revealed that creative people are more likely to flourish in life as it positively impacts mental, emotional, and physical health.
Mood booster:
Creativity enhance positive emotions in our everyday life. Just by doing 5 minutes of a creative activity a day, has the ability to lift our mood, decrease stress, lower cortisol levels and blood pressure, regulate heartrate, decreasing pain, providing more energy, health and vitality.
Flow Finder
You know the saying “time flies when you are having fun”? You might be in flow. It is being completely absorbed, focused, and involved in an activity to the point that any consciousness of time, space, and self is lost. In flow, the uncertainties of life melt away, along with doubts, fears, and anxieties, providing feelings of escape, calm, peace, joy and relaxation.
Relationship Lifter
Creativity can produce fun and connection to our lives. It makes us happier, more energetic and provides a potential boost to our social lives in creative group activates and social groups.
Meaning maker
Engaging in creative activates helps us to feel the presence of something at work that is greater than ourselves which enhances personal growth, clear goal setting, and greater meaning in life.
Accomplishment Creator
Completing a creative activity provides us with greater confidence in our abilities and enhances our sense of self-efficacy.
How do we engage in the creative flow and produce some of these benefits?
Creative Flow Activates:
Research confirms that any creative activity is going to have a positive impact on our wellbeing regardless of our personality, or skill level. So, let’s find a creative activity that will inspire, motivate, and ignite the creative in you.
Spend Time in nature!
Research has determined that spending 20 to 30 minutes in nature every day is one way you can get into the creative flow. Not only is this excellent for physical health but appreciating nature provides a sensory experience that enhances creative inspiration.

Morning Pages
Writing without any purpose, judgement or criticism brings you into creative flow. Ten years ago, I was rescued from a creative rut when I remembered Julia Cameron’s (1994) “The Artist Way: A spiritual path to creativity” “Morning Pages”. They are three pages of handwritten “streams-of-consciousness” completed every morning upon rising. It works. Make yourself a warm beverage and let your creativity flow.

Doodlee-doo (Doodle)
Like the morning pages, doodling is a great way to get into the creative flow. Grab a blank piece of paper and let your imagination guide your pen as you play.

Brainstorm creative activities:
Set a timer for 10 minutes and brainstorm creative activates that interest you and then set out to do one every day.
Creative activity examples:
· Paint or colour-by-numbers
· Sing
· Join an art or pottery class
· Write a journal
· Cook.

Now you are ready to let your creativity flow. You have so much creativity hidden in you. It is going to be an exciting adventure of creative discovery and believe me your life will be better for it.
